Committees

The mission of the Palomares Parent Teacher Club is carried out by its committees.

There are ways to help both at the school site and during non-school hours. We are confident you can find a way to contribute that suits your interests and your schedule.

  1. Events   [Barbara Gistand - 581-7497]

This active group is responsible for the planning and execution of the fun holiday events held each year. Each grade will be responsible for one event during the year, with help from another grade so the traditions can continue.

Assistance during the events is needed to set up booths, hide eggs, serve food, etc. This team will work with the Hospitality Committee to coordinate all food requirements for the events. There is a list of recommended items and amounts for each event.

  2. Hospitality   [Susan Soares - 537-8490]

This committee is responsible for providing refreshments for the various PPTC sponsored activities during the year. These activities include the First Day of School Coffee, Staff Appreciation Days, the monthly PPTC membership meetings and any other Club event that needs snacks or food.

The members of this committee will maintain the inventory of the food and non-food items such as plates, cups, and napkins and make purchases as needed. It is expected that the time commitment will be about 2-3 hours a year. Perhaps just make a Costco run and deliver the supplies to the school!

  3. Room Parents   [Jean Mufty - 583-0844]

This committee is a wonderful way to directly aid the teachers, both in and outside the classroom. Each teacher has many needs during the school week, and often has a list of activities that can be done in the evenings. The members of this committee will work with the teachers to understand what they need, recruit parental assistance and communicate back to the PPTC any financial requirements. Classroom parties and field trips are coordinated through this committee.

  4. Fundraising   [Kathy Cronwall - 582-1238]

This important group is responsible for the fund raising activities of the Palomares Parent Teacher Club. The PPTC provides funds for requirements like the Fine Arts Program, Disaster kits and Library and for fun events like the Harvest Festival, The Bat Lady and Annual Campout.

The committee will decide what fundraisers to do, such as the Hawk-a-thon, eScrip, Pyzano's and Rigatoni's nights and work with the PPTC Board closely in the budget process. They may also explore grants as a way to bring needed funds to the school.

  5. Fine Arts   [Gladys Kong - 733-9599]

The Fine Arts program is an unfunded requirement for the school, so it is also entirely a voluntary effort. This committee's primary focus is to provide in-class art instruction compliant with State Standards. They also run the Spotlight on the Arts Social, the Fine Arts Festival and Music for Minors II. In addition, it coordinates with the teachers who may request PPTC funded theatrical or musical programs (like the Banana Slug String Band).

  6. Library   [Jennifer Bremer - 583-6463]

The library is open and run due entirely to its volunteer staff. The library parents maintain the library and run Library Day. The district library funding this year has been reduced to about $100 for the whole school, so this committee is tasked with determining what needs to be purchased and communicating to the PPTC for funding. This committee also runs 2-3 Book Fairs each year to help fund the library.

This committee seeks ways to engage the students and the school in the greater community. They run the food drive, Christmas Giving Tree and other outreach programs.

  8. Technology   [Monika Momiyama - 728-8509]

The technology committee is responsible for maintaining the school web site, as the district does not have resources to do this. All school related documents, email lists, and notices are maintained by this committee. They also provide the school and the PPTC with guidance on technology purchases.

Anyone with some computer hardware, software, and especially web knowledge is strongly encouraged to sign up. Nearly all of the time spent is during non-school hours.

  9. Campus Beautification   [Cynthia Pisani - 582-6227]

This committee helps keep Palomares beautiful. They will recruit volunteers for major cleanup efforts (like preparing for the Watershed Festival) and tend the gardens and grounds on a more regular basis. They manage all the green waste and keep the compost pile alive.

The time commitment can vary from a Saturday a year, to a couple of hours a week. No green thumb needed as experienced gardeners are available to guide.

  10. Health and Safety   [Karen Sherman - 581-0409]

The committee is responsible for emergency preparedness on campus. They annually review the plan and coordinate with the school district to ensure compliance of laws and regulations. An annual inventory of emergency supplies is done and a budget and purchase requests are presented to the PPTC.

  11. Yearbook   [Daisy Lee - 538-5115; Elisa Dasalla - 410-2916]

This committee works with the 5th grade class to create the annual yearbook. They also arrange for the printing and sales. Photos of the children, teachers and staff at school events are collected from willing parents and artfully arranged into pages that become the yearbook.

The committee members get to learn from an experienced coordinator, so it is open to more than 5th grade parents. Your children will be there before you know it!
