PPTC Meeting 12/07/05 In attendance: Barbara Gistand, David Pellegrini, Karen Drumm, Kathy Cronwall, Gladys Kong, Gigi Catrina, Chelsea Azar, Ganesa Saur, Lisa Wallace, Rich Sherman, Sharon Horgan, Pat Eppard President Report ---------------- Parent leadership meeting: The new Performing Arts Center at Castro Valley High School is opening up at the end of January. The next meeting to be held there, 1/11, 9:30am to 11:30am--need three parents to represent our school and one member of the site council to attend the meeting. The dates for PPTC meetings for the rest of the year are: 1/17 (6:30pm for 2nd & 3rd grade mini-literacy lesson), 2/9, 3/8, 4/4, 5/11, 6/7 Treasurer's Report ------------------ Karen Sherman's raffle at the Thanksgiving Feast brought in $154. Recycling brought in $38. Money was also generated by selling cookbooks and scrip. Need volunteers to take over the Banking on Fridays. Washington Mutual's program is a great way for our children to learn how to manage their money so please contact Anna Nallon if interested. Recycling --------- Sharon Horgan has agreed to be the coordinator for this committee but needs volunteers to sort and haul the bottles and cans to the recycling center. Last year the school raised over $550 with recycling. Principal's Report ------------------ Thanksgiving Feast went very well and thank you to all for participating Watershed Festival to be held on 4/29 Lunchroom to open week of 12/12 Report cards sent home 12/16 District Board meeting to honor Palomares on our Blue Ribbon Award Music for Minors going well, all participating classrooms report great feedback Draft for "Vision for the Future of our School" to be completed by Spring Events ------ Barbara Gistand extends her thanks to all who helped make the Thanksgiving Feast a success 12/15 6:30pm Winter Program at Canyon Middle School. Children arrive by 6:00pm. Bring a dessert to share Molly Palmer coordinating punch and decorations Annette Alfaro has been contacted about needed hospitality supplies Janitor contacted for site needs Room Parents ------------ Jean Mufty following up on needs for Winter Program Fundraising ----------- Karen Drumm reports that the Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough Fundraiser will kick-off on 1/11 with emails, flyers and info at 2 flag ceremonies Village Crafters sold 6 of our cookbooks and is willing to allow us to sell our cookbooks there if someone is able to set up a table and man it. Contact Karen Drumm at 727-1525, if interested. Health & Safety --------------- Jim Edwards' results from his survey of our emergency kits : 136 emergency kits still valid, 21 expired. Recommend buying 24 new kits at $162, 3 cases of energy bars at $384 and consider buying several 10 person tents. The emergency plan has been updated. Fine Arts --------- Music for Minors is in the 2nd week of lessons with Gladys Kong teaching K, Christine Shurma for 1st, and two docents from the Music for Minors program teaching 2nd & 3rd. Community Relations ------------------- Ganesa Saur reports that 108 families in Castro Valley benefited from the food donations from the combined efforts of Castro Valley schools. St. Vincent de Paul received the overflow. All the ornaments were chosen off the Giving Tree, please bring gifts by 12/20 12/20 volunteers needed from 2pm-5:30pm, room D-11 at Canyon Middle School to wrap or deliver presents There is a family in need of a washer and dryer and blankets, please contact Ganesa at 537-8141 if you have any of these items to donate Lost coats were donated to Castro Valley families in need Technology ---------- Some emails fail to work, please contact Dave Pellegrini at 727-1525 if you are not currently receiving school email and would like to.
